Royals win a nail biter!

The South Island Royals U17AAA team opened their preseason last Saturday, September 10 at Ian Stewart Complex by winning a very close game vs. the North Island Silver Tips. The Tips came out strong and starting banging immediately. The first goal was scored by the Tips but quickly after that Sullivan Humeniuk sent Aden Glenn on a long stretch pass where Glenn batted the puck in mid air and scored on the Tips net minder. North Island went up 2-1 with a wicked shot past Royals goaltender, Jeevan Sandhu. Luckily Sandhu made some key saves late in the game to keep the Royals within striking distance. Pinned against the boards, Tyler Delli-Carri, made a big play by nearly one handing a pass from behind the net out in front where forward, Ryan Helmkay, potted the game tying goal. With less than 9 seconds left in the game, the Royals' coaching staff, Head Coach Jeff Kerr and Assistant Coach Sean Timmins, threw their last effort on the ice as they had a faceoff in the Tips' zone. After a massive scramble, Glenn scores his second of the game at the buzzer. The rink went absolutely crazy! What a great start for the boys.
